Meditation – Believe*

Meditation is simply a technique which allows us to quiet our thoughts and thereby enter into a state of relaxation. To meditate we usually begin by focusing on something other than our thoughts, for example the breath. We become focused on our breath as we inhale slowly and deeply and just as slowly we exhale.

With each exhalation we feel our worries and concerns leaving our bodies. As we focus on breathing we think about the breath bringing more oxygen into our body, our amazing body that God created, which is filled with life and breath.

We are seated and our palms are open and facing upwards we are resting them on our knees or thighs. This open palm position is to show we are open to receive from God, we are open to listen to Him.

To set the mood for meditation it can be beneficial to have soft instrumental music playing or sounds that are relaxing, such as the ocean, or the sound of a gentle breeze flowing through trees. I have a CD of Gregorian chants which I play softly sometimes when I am meditating.

To open our minds we first quiet our spirits using these gentle methods and also continue to focus on breath, if interrupting thoughts occur, we acknowledge them but do not commune with them. Meditation is freeing our minds to hear from God. We are breathing in relaxation and breathing out concerns.

Prayer is an excellent tool to use before meditation, and prayer can be spoken aloud or silently it can also be sung. Jesus gave us the example of the perfect prayer:

Our Father

Who art in Heaven

Hallowed be Thy name

Thy Kingdom come

Thy will be done

On earth as it is in Heaven

Give us this day

Our daily bread

Forgive us our trespasses

As we forgive those who trespass against us

Lead us not into temptation

But deliver us from evil

For Thine is the Kingdom

The Power

and the Glory

Now and Forever

Amen

When we breathe in and out slowly our bodies relax, our worries dissipate, our minds become free. Now we can enter into praise. We praise God because it reminds us how amazing, and how capable He is and that we can trust Him to take care of all of our needs. He created the world. Every tiny detail in His world matters to Him.

You are a part of His creation therefore you matter to Him. No detail is too small to bring before Him in prayer. God is so much bigger than our concerns. He made the world, the oceans, the planets but the most important thing He created was you. His child. His beloved. Bring your prayers and concerns before Him with an open, trusting and humble heart.

When you open your heart to share your concerns, know He is with you listening carefully. Believe that your prayers are being answered, let go of the need to see and know the answers.

ALL will be well, the timing is God’s.

Praise Him, He can do all things.

He loves you.

Believe in Him.

He heard you.

Trust Him.

Let it all go.

He is taking care of the problem.

He is able.

Continue to focus on your breathing, you are loved, you are cared for, all will be well.

Jesus Christ, Yesterday, Today and Forever.

The Shepherd watches over and protects His flock.

He will continue to teach you and lead you on your journey.

Listen to Him.

Learn of HIm.

Grow with Him.

*The meditation word for today is Believe. Amen means ‘believe’, everytime you say Amen you are saying believe and everytime you are saying believe you are saying Amen.

Blessings to you and those you love. Believe in God, He believes in you!
